| Oleg Gotskosik comments on the world around us in his From the Jewish Folk tradition. In this painful piece of music Jewish and Muslim traditions meet in a kind of lament over the present state of the world. Gotskosik is a master of versatility. His tonal language belongs to our time both in regard to form and expressive elements. |
His contribution to the recital was moving...
From the Jewish Folk Tradition was composed for a Baltic festival.
Tonights performance was glowing. Overlapping, gliding rhythms made
out of a few notes created the sensation of an ocean of people, a space,
a road of pain fading out like the consciousness of a dreamer. The listener who prefers more rabid progressions could
gormandize in Oleg Gotskosiks From the Jewish Folk Tradition.
This passionate, tragic musical language gave a reminiscence of Bartók
but spiced with Jewish folklore. Its impact was profound, painful, gorgeous. |
